Comedy Comp Tickets
Ken Ludwig's Lend Me A Tenor
It's 1934 at the Cleveland Grand Opera, where the tickets have been sold, the stage set, and the thirty-piece orchestra rehearsed. All that's missing is one world-famous Italian tenor. When he appears, so does drama at levels usually reserved for the stage, which in turn plays on the nerves of the company's very high strung manager who enlists his skittish but determined assistant to save the day. This madcap comedy navigates from one catastrophe to the next including crazy costumes and loads of slamming doors. In the end, two men share the role of a life time to bring the big night to its grand, farcical finale.

Casting: 4m/4f
Max -- 30-ish. A ner-do-well nerd who dearly loves Maggie, dearly loves opera, and desperately longs for courage. He works under Saunders, literally.
Saunders -- 50-ish. The Cleveland Grand Opera’s general manager. Father to Maggie. A blowhard who often loses his temper at the slightest mishap. Saunders is a man who gets things done, one way or another.
Tito Merelli -- 40-ish. He's a life-loving, over-indulgent world-class tenor with a passion for food, wine, women, and especially opera. And women. And women.
Bellhop -- Ageless. A comic relief character who is an obnoxious opera fan. They keep showing up at the hotel suite at the wrong moment.
Maggie -- 20-ish. Saunder’s daughter, and Max’s girlfriend. She has a great admiration for Tito.
Maria - 40-ish. Tito's wife: a moody, hot-blooded, hot-tempered Italian who's a little bit like Sophia Loren. She's a jealous, territorial animal.
Julia -- 60-ish. Chairwoman of the Cleveland Opera Guild, who considers herself a “Grande dame”.
Diana -- Ageless. The opera’s ingenue soprano, who is “fighting her way” to the top. A seductive woman, and she knows it.
