I AM AN ISLAND
I AM AN ISLAND is a surrealist dark comedy – Sarah Ruhl meets Samuel Beckett – that takes place on an island that is sinking into the sea. Our hero, May, tries to convince others of this truth, but no one will listen. And so, May resorts to a political demonstration– she will stand still, in the middle of the island, and sink into the sea herself.

The tone is playful and sincere. The world takes place in a side step out of reality. The characters are honest and open-hearted. Watering Hole Collective encourages people of all races, ages, ethnicities, abilities, and gender identities to audition.
May: F, 30s-40s - Dry and thoughtful, curious. An outsider. Runs melancholy, but has humor. Cares, even when she feels/is misunderstood. Trying, or trying to try.
Sandra: F, 30s-40s - Bright and optimistic. A caretaker. Runs joyful, but not without depth. Noble, but avoids what is uncomfortable. May's twin, though they should not look alike.
Ben: M, 30s - Inventive and enthusiastic. A little awkward, but hopeful. A doer, a fixer, a dreamer. Searching for hope, or trying desperately to build it — to feel it at all costs. Certain it is what everyone needs.
April: F, 20s - On vacation -- from our world. Feels modern and "cool". Loves to give advice/share "wisdom". Superior and in need at once.
Grandma: F, 30s-80s - Brash and a little hard. She used to be haunted, but now she does the haunting. Because she's a ghost. She was softer once, so long ago that no one remembers. Her haunting is fun, maybe even a little glamorous. Loves a good martini.
