Show Synopsis Hadestown is a Tony Award-winning musical by Anaïs Mitchell that intertwines the Greek myths of Orpheus and Eurydice and Hades and Persephone. Set in a stylized, mythical world, the story follows Orpheus, a passionate musician, as he embarks on a treacherous journey to the underworld to rescue his love, Eurydice. Meanwhile, Hades rules over Hadestown, an industrial underworld where the dead are bound to eternal labor, while his wife, Persephone, longs for the warmth of the world above. Through a powerful blend of folk, jazz, blues, and theatrical storytelling, Hadestown explores themes of love, fate, power, and sacrifice, reminding us that some stories are worth telling—no matter how they end. Available Roles Orpheus: A lyre-playing poet, both gifted and naïve. Vocal range: Tenor with strong falsetto, spanning D3 to C5 (optional up to Eb5). Eurydice: A runaway who is both tough and vulnerable. Vocal range: Mezzo-Soprano/Alto, from F#3 to D5. Hades: The compulsive industrialist and ruler of Hadestown. Vocal range: Bass, from F2 to C#4. Persephone: Queen of nature and the seasons, characterized as a lush. Vocal range: Mezzo-Soprano/Alto, spanning F3 to C5. Hermes: A charismatic guide and storyteller, serving as a mentor to Orpheus. Vocal range: Tenor/Baritone, from C3 to B4. The Fates: Three sisters who are both vicious and delightful, acting as the voices in one's head. Their vocal ranges are Soprano, Mezzo-Soprano, and Alto, covering E3 to D5 (with Fate 1 reaching up to Eb5). Workers: Representing the spirits of labor and community, they provide a physical and choral presence. The ensemble is flexible and expandable, accommodating various vocal parts (SATB).
